Export contacts

Download every contact of the workspace as a file that opens in Excel: what the file holds, and what it leaves out.

Version 1.0 · Last updated ·

Export the list

Your contacts are yours. The export gives you all of them in one file, to keep, to read in a spreadsheet, or to take elsewhere.

  1. Open Contacts.

  2. Click Export CSV.

The download starts at once. The file is named with the day’s date, for example xconversions-contacts-2026-10-05.csv.

The top of the list on the Contacts screen, with the Export CSV button ringed between Import CSV and New contact.

What the file holds

One line a contact, under a header line. The column names and the words in the consent column are in the language you use the app in.

ColumnWhat it holds
NAMEThe contact’s name. Empty when there is none.
NUMBERThe WhatsApp number in international form, such as +971501234567.
EMAILThe email address, when there is one.
CONSENTmay be messaged for a contact marked Can message. opted out for every other contact.
LANGUAGEen, ar or fr, or empty.
CAME FROMWhere the contact came from: whatsapp, import, added by hand, whatsapp_history, or the word your own file gave.
TAGSThe contact’s tags, separated by · .
OTHER FIELDSThe custom fields, each as its name, a colon and its value, separated by · .
ADDEDThe day the contact was added, as 2026-08-14.
  • The CONSENT column has two values only. It does not tell a contact marked No consent from one marked Opted out: both read opted out. To list the people who asked to stop, use the filter asked to stop on the screen.
  • Not in the file: the remark name, the owner, the note, the day somebody opted out, and the conversations.

Open the file

The file is a CSV in UTF-8, with commas between the columns. It opens in Excel and other spreadsheets, and Arabic names read correctly.

Each number has an invisible character in front of it. It is there so that a spreadsheet shows +971… as text and does not turn it into a calculation or drop the +.

Good to know

  • Who can export: everybody who can open Contacts, which is people whose access includes Contacts and segments. See Roles and access.
  • Every export is written to the workspace’s activity log, with who downloaded it.
  • Contacts are exported from this screen only. Data & privacy in Settings lists the other files you can take with you, under Take your data, and says what the product keeps. See Data and privacy.

Questions

Can I export only one segment, or only the people with a tag?

No. The file is always everybody. Open it in a spreadsheet and filter on the TAGS column.

Does the file include the messages?

No. It holds the contacts, not their conversations.

Is there a limit to the number of contacts?

No. The file is written as it is read, so a long list downloads the same way as a short one.
